Restricted Fire Zone June 27, 2023

The Calabogie Canada Day fireworks display will proceed as planned on July 1. The fireworks show is managed by trained professionals including a licensed technician. The launch site is at Heritage Point, with the fireworks being launched over Calabogie Lake and the fallout zone kept within the area of the water. No members of the public will be permitted within the launch site or the fallout zone.

The Greater Madawaska Fire Department was honoured with a visit from the Lord Prior of the Order of St. John, Mark Compton, on June 23, 2023. Several Firefighters and members of council attended the Calabogie Fire Station for the visit. Lord Prior presented firefighters with St. John Ambulance Canada Life Saving Award Pins and presented the Life Saving award to the Station. June 20, 2023, The Township of Greater Madawaska’s Council and leadership team had a great day touring Ontario Power Generation’s newly redeveloped Calabogie Generating Station. Construction on the new build began in 2020 and is situated about 50 metres upstream from the old powerhouse. The new, larger turbine units are capable of handling more water, thanks in part to a reshaped forebay and tailrace.
