Federal Electoral Districts Redistribution 2022 Commission Proposal

The Federal Electoral Districts Redistribution 2022 Commission has recommended replacing Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke with a new riding known as Algonquin-Renfrew-Pembroke. This recommendation includes removing the entirety of the Township of Greater Madawaska from the Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke electoral district and proposes to move the municipality to a new electoral district of Lanark-Frontenac, which is known today as Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston.

The electors of the Township of Greater Madawaska primarily conduct their business, enjoy social circles, and family gatherings within the Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke electoral district. The proposed boundary would negatively impact this current arrangement and would also require additional travel time to meet with the MP and/or MPP.

The boundary proposal, if approved, would lead to political division within the County of Renfrew when a motion is passed by County Council requesting all members reach out to their MP and/or MPP. Furthermore, the Township of Greater Madawaska has developed strong working relationships with the MP and MPP of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke along with various agencies and municipalities, which itself is challenging in rural Eastern Ontario.

If you oppose the new riding boundaries, please visit the Township’s Facebook Page to sign the petition in opposition of Greater Madawaska being removed from the riding currently named Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke.
