  • Canada Day Update

Canada Day Update – Calabogie Celebrations

It is with great disappointment that, due to the extreme heat and exceptionally dry conditions, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Canada Day fireworks scheduled for Wednesday evening.

The health and safety of our residents, visitors, volunteers, and staff is always our highest priority.

With the current weather conditions creating an increased risk of heat-related illness and wildfire, we feel this is the most responsible decision.

We know many families look forward to this tradition each year, and we sincerely apologize for any disappointment this may cause.

At this time, we are continuing to monitor conditions and assess the remainder of today's scheduled activities.

Please stay tuned to the Township's social media channels for updates regarding the afternoon and evening festivities, as additional changes or cancellations may be necessary depending on weather conditions.

Thank you for your understanding, patience, and support as we work to keep our community safe.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and take care of one another.

  • Level 2 Fire Ban in Effect

Level 2 Fire Ban Now in Effect – Township of Greater Madawaska

Due to the ongoing extreme heat and exceptionally dry conditions, the Greater Madawaska Fire Department has implemented a Level 2 Fire Ban, effective immediately.

We know this is disappointing—especially after the difficult decision to cancel Canada Day fireworks. We understand how much everyone looks forward to celebrating with family and friends, but these decisions have been made with one priority in mind: the safety of our residents, visitors, firefighters, and our community.

With conditions this dry, it only takes one spark to start a wildfire.

We are asking everyone to help keep Greater Madawaska safe by refraining from setting off personal fireworks and by respecting the restrictions outlined in the Level 2 Fire Ban.

During a Level 2 Fire Ban:
    • All burn permits are suspended.
    • No new burn permits will be issued.
    • Campfires, brush fires, chimineas, fire pits, burn barrels, fireworks, sky lanterns, ban busters, and other recreational wood-burning devices are not permitted.

    The following are still permitted:
    • Propane or charcoal barbecues in good working order and used responsibly.
    • Propane fire pits in good working order and used responsibly.
    • Outdoor wood furnaces, where permitted under Township by-law.

We sincerely appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation. By working together and following these restrictions, we can help protect our forests, homes, neighbours, and the emergency responders who serve our community.

Thank you for doing your part to help keep Greater Madawaska safe.
