FINAL WILDFIRE UPDATE – UNDER CONTROL

July 17, 2026, 12:00 pm

The Ministry of Natural Resources has now updated the status of the small wildfire located on Crown land between Calabogie and Burnstown from “Being Held” to “Under Control.”

According to the Ministry, “Under Control” means the fire has received sufficient suppression action to ensure there will be no further spread.

The fire has not yet been officially classified as “Out,” which is the final stage indicating that it has been fully extinguished. MNR crews may continue working in the area as they complete suppression and monitoring activities, and the fire is anticipated to progress toward that final status over the coming days.

There continues to be no threat to the public, nearby homes or infrastructure.

With the fire now under control, this will be the Township’s final update. We will provide further information only if the situation changes or there is information the public needs to know.

The Township thanks the Ministry’s fire crews for their quick response and continued work, and residents for allowing emergency personnel to operate safely.

Education

Students from the Township of Greater Madawaska attend schools within the Renfrew County Catholic District School Board (RCCDS) and the Renfrew County District School Board (RCDSB).

The Township is home to St. Joseph's Elementary School, where many township elementary students attend.
